DTN COMMENTS: Yet another quiet start to the day in cash cattle country
with asking prices around $211 to $212 in the South, but they are still
not established in the North. So far, bids remain very hard to find.
Packer inquiry should start to improve as the day progresses, but it is
very possible that significant trade volume could be delayed until
Friday. Beef cutouts are expected to be higher with light to moderate box
movement.
According to the Export Sales Highlights Report for the period of March
14 to March 20, net beef sales of 8,000 MT for 2025 were down 22 percent
from the previous week and 43 percent from the prior 4-week average.
Increases primarily for South Korea (3,300 MT), Japan (1,800 MT), Mexico
(1,200 MT), Taiwan (800 MT), and Hong Kong (300 MT), were offset by
reductions for the United Kingdom (100 MT). Exports of 14,100 MT were
down 8 percent from the previous week and 5 percent from the prior 4-week
average. The destinations were primarily to South Korea (4,000 MT), Japan
(3,500 MT), China (2,400 MT), Mexico (1,500 MT), and Canada (700 MT).
