Wheat...A sharp retreat of about 30 cents across the futures complex
weighed on west coast cash bids on Tuesday, with an unchanged USDA balance
sheet providing little support. The divergence between market fundamentals
and the spike in futures was also apparent, as nearby basis levels for all
the wheats weakened over the past week. Export demand has languished the
past two weeks and U.S. exporters are attempting to remain competitive.
Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed a rebound in shipments of
U.S. wheat last week, coming in at 18.2 million bushels which puts current
year loadings 20% ahead of a year ago at 703 million. Hard red spring was
the top mover with 6.8 million bushels, followed by hard red winter with
5.3 million, and white wheat with 4.4 million. West coast exporters moved
11.3 million bushels of wheat, going mostly to China, along with more than
17 million bushels of corn and 7.5 million bushels of soybeans.
