DTN WEEKLY ROUND UP: Business developed on Tuesday last week,
with some light scattered trade taking place Wednesday through
Friday. Southern live deals had a range of $137 to mostly
$140, with weighted averages roughly steady with the prior
week. Northern dressed sales had a range of $225 to mostly
$230, weighted averages were just little over $1 lower than
the previous week, basis Nebraska. According to Thursday's
Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle Summary reports the accumulated
weekly average price totals are as follows (the prior week's
weighted averages are listed in parentheses): KS $139.96
($139.52); NE $229.26($230.47); TX $139.68($139.98); IA
$228.64($231.31); CO $144.00($146.00).
According to the Friday Afternoon Daily Direct Slaughter
Cattle reports weekly trade volume totals were: KS 14,123; NE
34,460; TX 9,528; IA 17,029; and CO 521. Friday's slaughter
totaled 120,000 head, 1,000 less than the prior week but
4,000 more than a year ago. Saturday's kill was estimated at
42,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 657,000 head, even
with the previous week, but 13,000 greater than 2021. The
weekly averages for boxed beef cutouts and boxed beef cuts:
choice $256.95(-1.34), select $243.18(-3.64), with an average
choice select spread of $13.77(+2.31), and a total load count
including cuts, trimmings, and grinds of 746(+120). Changes
from the prior week are listed in parentheses.
For the week ending May 07, 2022, Imported Beef Passed for
Entry in the U.S. totaled 50,757, 97.48% of the previous week
and 103.62% of the 4-week average.
DTN MORNING COMMENTS: It looks to be a quiet Monday with bids
and asking prices not established as of yet, as buyers and
sellers are both busy taking inventory. Significant trade
volume will likely be delayed until Wednesday or later. Beef
cutouts are expected to be mixed with generally light box
